Christians who attend church and read the Bible at least three times a week are less likely to have sex outside of marriage than those who do not engage in those religious practices. In contrast, in a ChristianMingle study released in January, only 50 percent of female Christians and 39 percent of Christian males said that they went to church at least once a month. Of the Christians surveyed, 90 percent of them said they would be comfortable with premarital sex and 61 percent without any strings attached.

Race, Class, and Christianity 5 Comments views 2 The body of Christ has played an unfortunate role in stigmatizing interracial marriage in the United States. Interracial unions were common in the early days of American settlement when European men intermarried with Native American women and with freed people of African descent.

But as America developed a slavery-based economy, many pastors began to preach that slavery was ordained and blessed by God. Interracial marriages between whites and Native Americans or blacks were eventually banned, slave marriages were not recognized, and Native American marriages were typically viewed as barbaric rituals. Many Christian slave owners justified adultery and exploitation of black and multiracial women by referencing Abraham and Hagar.

Race-based slavery corrupted white churches, dividing them into pro-slavery groups e. In the s a pastor from New York named Josiah Priest taught congregations that the very thought of interracial sex was disgusting and sinful. He hypothesized that if the abhorrent idea crossed the mind of a white person, it was followed with an ice-cold chill of the soul, that chill being the voice of God. Apparently many Christian slave owners chose to ignore this chill when sexually abusing their female slaves; the chill must have been unique to the soul of Priest.

Despite interracial marriage becoming legal decades ago, there are still contemporary cases in which American churches continue to believe Christian tradition forbids interracial unions.

I still hear this proverb being used everywhere from TV shows to magazines, and I think it’s true to say that our culture still views dating as a means to find a more permanent and stable relationship. This is true in the Christian view of dating too. So if this is the case, when should I date? This will probably upset a few people, but my hot tip is that you shouldn’t start dating until you’ve at least left high school, and I have four reasons for taking this line Let’s not kid ourselves Eros love sexual love can be a dangerous thing, so why open yourself up to more temptation?

Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires. It’s awkward because break-ups don’t just affect the two people involved, but the whole community. It can breed a whole range of unhelpful feelings like resentment, jealousy, envy, and loneliness. I’ve seen what teen break-ups have done in youth groups and the destruction it causes when some stop coming to youth group because they can’t handle being around their ex, or friends are forced to choose sides.

Not to mention the heartache of being rejected or dumped. Relationships are already pretty fragile around the teenage years, so why put them in jeopardy by risking a destructive break-up? You will still risk the hurt of break-ups when you’re an adult, but hopefully by then your faith in Christ will have matured and strengthened, and you will have formed a strong and stable friendship base to get you through.

People change throughout their lifetime in all sorts of ways, but the changes that happen in transition from adolescence to adulthood are probably the most dramatic.

Formally known as the Republic of Ghana Orientation Identification. Ghana, formerly the British colony of the Gold Coast, assumes a special prominence as the first African country to acquire independence from European rule. Ghanaian politicians marked this important transition by replacing the territory’s colonial label with the name of a great indigenous civilization of the past.

While somewhat mythical, these evocations of noble origins, in combination with a rich cultural heritage and a militant nationalist movement, have provided this ethnically diverse country with unifying symbols and a sense of common identity and destiny. Over forty years of political and economic setbacks since independence have tempered national pride and optimism. Yet, the Ghanaian people have maintained a society free from serious internal conflict and continue to develop their considerable natural, human, and cultural resources.

Ghana is located on the west coast of Africa, approximately midway between Senegal and Cameroon. The land surface of 92, square miles , square kilometers is dominated by the ancient Precambrian shield, which is rich in mineral resources, such as gold and diamonds. The land rises gradually to the north and does not reach an altitude of more than 3, feet meters. Mar 23, Scott Croft Looking for a completely countercultural path to marriage? Here’s how to apply God’s Word to dating, finding a spouse and getting married. The system today’s young men and women have inherited for finding and marrying a future spouse leaves a lot to be desired. We often hear complaints from readers about the confusion, hurt and sexual sin they’ve encountered despite their best intentions. Many want to know how they can go about getting to know someone and eventually getting married without getting hurt or compromising their faith.

Article What do non-evangelicals think of evangelical dating culture? My students were shocked when they read evangelical books on dating. The idea that you would know your partner’s religious affiliation, what made them tick, or what kind of family they came from before you had sex with them was unheard of. They couldn’t imagine how to bring religion or spirituality into relationships. It was way too intimate a question.

It’s something you get into after you had been with somebody for six months. What’s really interesting is that you have a lot of people with extremely different value systems in long-term, serious relationships because the conversation happened way after the fact. Many serious relationships start only after a serial hooking-up that has taken place over the course of months where there is little to no conversation in between the hook-ups. Among evangelicals you couldn’t even think about whether someone was attractive before you knew whether or not the person was Christian.
